Steven Passaro / "Waterboys" Fall-Winter 2023

Article by Miguel Sagaz

Paris Fashion Week is a true invitation to disconnect from expectations and let yourself go into the visionary world of creative directors and new designers. This season I got to experience such a world with Steven Passaro. A young designer whose vulnerability and talent have translated into the most beautiful designs.

Water. A powerful duality. Shapeless, emotional, ever-changing, magical. No wonder Steven Passaro’s new Fall-Winter 2023 collection was inspired by this element. Passaro delves into this exploration delivering a stunning collection that is sure to be both an editorial and business success.

In his own words “As a Pisces, I have a strong relationship with Adam’s Ale. Like a call from within to meet the depths of life, it appeared early in my childhood with my first swims. This season I wanted to explore the idea of water as a metaphor for emotions”. (Steven Passaro)

Every inspired garment is rich in story and wearability. His clothes are certainly directed to the modern man. Someone who isn’t afraid of making a statement.

Passaro’s eye for tailoring is impeccable, but his designs do not feel compromised by structure. Prints and shapes inspired by German Photographer Caroline Koenigs's artwork make an appearance translated into knitted jacquard.
A dramatic deconstructed jacket with an open chest with delicate tulle plissé suggests waves crashing onto the shores.
Every piece of the collection is a masterclass in savior-faire.  Hand-sewn embroidery, leather embellishments, and organza silk layering are just some of the details that bring this collection to life.

Every inspired garment is rich in story and wearability. His clothes are certainly directed to the modern man. Someone who isn’t afraid of making a statement. A man who dares to be seen pushing the boundaries of style.

As I write this article, I am listening to Flower Boys - Saint Ivory, the song Passaro played in the background while bringing this collection to life. “Waterboys, the strong sensitive”.

There is something special about connecting with the artist’s process. Because that is what Art really is, isn’t it? A way to connect to the artist should, state of mind, dreams and brining us closer together.

I look forward to seeing Passaro’s evolution and to be honest purchasing several pieces from his collection. I am a fan.
