The Aster

It has been said that “Los Angeles, brings it all together.” Perhaps that is exactly what The Aster LA is here to do.

Lately, the constant search for private member clubs has grown exponentially. Whether in NYC, London, or Los Angeles, being part of a private club can be a sign of status, but it doesn’t need to feel restrictive or superficial.

Having visited various private clubs around the world, I was interested to find out what the newest addition to the Hollywood scene could bring. The Aster, an adults-only (with childcare offered on Sundays) members club and hotel, is situated in a six-story building on the iconic Vine Street and Hollywood Boulevard intersection.

Lily O’Brien, Membership Manager at the Aster, was kind enough to give us a full tour of the property. One of the main things to know about this club is that there are no set criteria to join, and no long waiting lists, which allows the process to be a little bit more accessible to people that are not reached out to usually for private membership clubs.

The Aster features a wide range of amenities including a screening room, pool, cabaret room, lounges, salon by renowned hair stylist Jonathan Antin (members get 30% off services) dedicated workspaces, and even a recording studio.

The Aster provides creative spaces like the recording studio, which allows members to act upon their creative desires. “If you meet someone downstairs by the pool, and go nice shoes, nice hat, nice bag, did we just become best friends? Should we just start a podcast”. Says Lily Obrien, (Membership Manager) Going upstairs and doing it, has never been easier. Important to note, that the recording studio can be used with or without a studio engineer.

According to O’Brien, the Aster is “Exclusive yet inclusive. Exclusive in nature, as it is a private membership club, but we are trying to be more inclusive. We do this by not asking future members for referrals (unlike other clubs), and we don’t have a committee reviewing memberships.”

The tour in this seemingly endless floor plan leads us to the suites. With a balanced and boho-chic interior design by Kevin O’Shea, the suites feel more like a small studio, than a hotel room.

I was pleasantly surprised by the generous size of their spaces, which is a much-desired necessary luxury nowadays. Every room has its own outdoor space, which allows guests and members to enjoy the beauty of the California weather.

Another perk of being a member at The Aster is the attractive rates available at every SALT portfolio, worldwide. So if you are an avid traveler, taking advantage of the network can be a smart decision.

Walking into the roof terrace, (the best part of the entire space in my opinion) is truly a wow moment. An effortlessly chic urban oasis with astonishing views gives you a 360-degree Hollywood vibe that’s hard to beat. And it is here, where The Aster’s culinary offering Lemon Grove, (helmed by award-winning celebrity chef, Chef Marcel Vigneron) will delight both members and visitors.

In his own words, Chef Vigneron shares some context “Lemon Grove draws its inspiration not only from the soil where these lemon groves grew, but the concrete and graffiti that now surrounds the space, the oceans that hug our beautiful beaches, and even the smog-filled skies. All of these elements are used as culinary muses for our cuisine.”

While promising, the restaurant was still not open during my visit, so I will have to come back and have a proper culinary experience, to share my thoughts.

The Aster is bringing in a diverse community of people, which enriches the social aspect of the club. And this is one of O’Brien’s favorite things about being a member. Except perhaps also the fish tacos, which she swears by. We will take her word for it, and perhaps come back and try them soon.
